#6: Blendtec’s “Will It Blend?”

May 1, 2008

Simply put, you either know what I’m talking about when I say “Will it blend?” or you need to find out. This series of online commercials is one of most addictive things I’ve found on youtube. These films feature Blendtec founder Tom Dickson using his Total Blender to blend random and occasionally hilarious objects including a Rubik’s Cube, marbles and an entire Christmas dinner.

What really makes the “Will it blend?” series so fun to watch is Tom’s absolutely dry manner of delivering his pitch. Blending Chuck Norris, Halo 3, Guitar Hero, etc. are all goofy things to begin with, but when you’re being asked this by a man who looks like he should be teaching high school US History, it makes it even more entertaining. Each short episode features the opening question (“Will it blend?”), an introduction of the item, the blending, the opening of the blender (typically followed by Tom saying, “[object] smoke, don’t breathe this”) and ending with “Yes, it blends”.

Of course these are really nothing more than (really awesome) commercials. I don’t own a Blendtec blender, and at this stage I can’t afford one. The basic model featured in the shorts are $399.95 on the company’s website and until Everything Is Genius puts me in the six-figure salary range, that’s just not going to happen. Still, if it’s something you can afford, I hear their blenders are among the best on the market. If it’s something you can’t afford, well, you can still enjoy the videos on youtube or the Will it Blend website.
