#7: Stuff Christians Like
I told myself I wouldn’t get hooked. I told myself it was just a cheesy fad capitalizing on my belief system. I told myself that I was better off without it…then my cynicism took over and this week I browsed through Stuff Christians Like…now I read it daily.
The biggest problem with SCL is that Jon writes the things that I think about before church and during church and after church. This makes it something I want to read because I wish I had thought of it first. Whether it’s today’s piece on the modern church and blue jeans or a previous entry on “Christianizing” your Facebook profile (here’s mine by the way), SCL keeps it light, but maintains relevancy. This quality is definitely what makes Stuff Christians Like appealing to me. Simultaneously intellectual and humorous, the site affirms my inner cynic while making me laugh.
And because of that, I think SCL can appeal to just about anyone that’s ever set foot in a church (even if only for a little while). I love that this site keeps it simple while breaking down and making light of the often esoteric “Christianese” spoken by so many self-proclaimed Christians today. Maybe you know that guy that always asks for “traveling mercies” or maybe you’re that person that has replaced every cuss word in the English language with a tamed down, “acceptable” version. Maybe you’re like me and deep down you need someone like SCL’s Jon Acuff to assure you that your misgivings about certain church practices aren’t just paranoia. Regardless of your situation, please check out Stuff Christians Like at least once. Maybe you’ll love it and start reading it frequently. Maybe you’ll hate it…though I have my doubts.
Thanks for the invitation! I just might do that!
By the way! I love your cute bubble face. I like cute things! I think I’ll start a blog that says that!
